Sunrise Café was the first place we visited and we first visited Brevard over 10 years ago. We still go weekly. I hope they find a place they can relocate too. It is a great business.

Non profit is big business. Why not say what non profit? But we know one business will put 12? People out of business? Then who will pay the taxes to give to the non profit? Maybe the the old business owners and former employed people will then be in a position to get services from the many non profits in brevard.

Brevard is showing a trend that does not favor a sustainable community but immediate profit making on any opportunity that presents itself.

Dan, sharing this article.

“In Transylvania County, we had to bring in 10 primary care providers with no medical office building and so we brought in two 10,000-square-foot modular office buildings to meet that community's needs," Kirby said. “It’s only so long I can keep 10 doctors in a mobile home, and so I've got to build facilities for those folks.

“As we bring in more primary care, more and more people are going to be seeking care using our ancillary services at Pardee. We need space for our specialists. We need more operating space. We're completely out of operating space.”

Noting the size of buildings UNC/Pardee has planned for future expansion and their desire to move practitioners out of the modular system on Asheville Highway and provide for more services this expansion would require a large commercial type building.

What non profit, healthcare entity? Is it actually something that will be HELPFUL to the area, especially for under served and low income citizens? Blue Ridge Community Health already meets a lot of that need. I would hope the community would be allowed to have this information, pre sale.

Another thought-

would the center’s business’s be able and willing to pay a slightly higher rent or a one time “assessment” (perhaps spread out over time) to give the current owner the ability to make the improvements necessary? In this situation are there small grants available under the category of civic improvements or something similar?

At what point will our community and its leaders see & understand the necessity of small, locally owned, non chain businesses that provide the character of the town & area.

Is another Highlands or Cashiers needed in this area? Would new residents and tourism come here that support that pricing? Or style of community? Isn’t the difference part of our area’s draw?

Of course property owners have every right to make profits on their investments, can our community find ways to help this happen with out destroying the soul of what is Brevard and Transylvania County?

I hope so.
