Exactly why is this trail so important? How is it going to help the people living in brevard who work, go to school, and young people hoping to make a home and family in brevard? I dont quite understand that. It seems money spent on downtown and infrastructure would better the quality of life for people, especially the young people who are starting out in life and hope to make, or keep, brevard as their home. Can anyone explain why the trail is so important in the face of such critical times. I hope the townspeople are remembering the young generation and their future here. It should not merely be a place of low pay service jobs for young people until they can get out. Worried.

It doesn’t really sit well with me that 1.74 million dollars was paid for the work on Main Street when those funds could have been applied to the engineering study for infrastructure and the trail. Tree removal and replacement on W Main was a necessary expenditure. But the bump outs and loss of Main Street parking is not. Planters would have been a lot less expensive. Oh, and millions for Blue Zone?

What do you mean millions for the blue zone? Is brevard investing millions on establishing a blue zone ? And what is money spent on to establish a blue zone, other than trees???? ???

The Blue Zone Project in the City of Brevard funding of 3 million came from Pisgah Health Foundation. The mayor could have pushed for those funds to be used for the trail (health benefits of walking), to put in/repair sidewalks (health benefits of walking) and support for those who do not drive which would benefit for the entire city community.

The Bradford Pear trees on W Main are a danger to people and property and should be removed as the city is currently doing but funding the 1.74 million dollar vanity project downtown was a waste of money.

So that the next generation of young people, 18 to 25, can get some fresh air walking to the unemployment office? ?? Since they won't be able to afford a car without a job....?? Or maybe they can get a cheap bicycle and ride to hendersonville for a job? Maybe the sarcasm is too heavy but I do wonder about the sustainability of brevard for the people who wish to grow families here. It's just terrible young people are forced to move away just to get a job outside of the fast food industry.

I think some good decisions have been made, but I do wish there would be a greater focus on opportunities for the young people. Thanks for the response.

I agree with you. If priorities can be found in actions then the mayor and council seem to be more interested in making the city look pretty instead of making it more sustainable for the 18-25 year olds to stay here.

I fear its only tourism that is seen as the way to generate business.
