Great article Dan, it's a relief to know that there are still people capable of disagreeing with each other without the need to hate each other. Heard of so many stories about families breaking apart over their political beliefs, glad that stories like this one, of understanding and support, are being told.

Well written article, but also lets me know where NOT to shop.

So well written and the article accomplished what I hope was the goal of the writer: to responsibly and accurately report on a timely topic that affects many of us. I am satisfied…and enlightened.

I found this article disturbing and descriptive of many families in today's current political climate. This family does not discuss politics and yet "they get along great." As an individual whose rights are currently being threatened and who has seen the rights of women to control their own bodies limited to an extreme my current sense of alarm is based on reality. When you have family members who support far right extremists views, when you have family members who believe conspiracy theories and these beliefs are resulting in a designation of individuals as second class citizens that is not my version of "getting along." The grandfather supports his gay son, does he support gay rights across the country? At best it is like sitting in a room full of gun powder waiting for someone to strike the first match.

I appreciate your opinion, Rodney. But I thought maybe one story about people finding agreement rather than disagreement might be a refreshing change.

Thanks Dan but I am not seeing the finding agreement aspect. Yes, they can live together and do so well as they do not discuss politics nor the very real discriminatory actions that Republicans have taken against women and are next in line to possibly reverse gay marriage. They do acknowledge their love for one another which is great. The article hit a "nerve" with me as I struggle with trying to understand and love those in my family whose political views threaten my rights. It is not just gay marriage, it is abortion rights, public education, healthcare and the list goes on and on. It is one thing to not support abortion for example - great, don't get one. It is an entirely different thing to restrict someone else's rights.

Hi Rodney. I appreciate your opinion, but I thought at least one article urging us to find common ground might be a refreshing change.
