As excited as I am about my new post with Asheville Watchdog, an outstanding and inspired effort to revive local journalism, I worry about leaving my old one.
Thanks for the work you have done over the last several years in identifying and disclosing local issues. You reporting will be missed, but I am glad to hear that you will be continuing the good work at the Asheville Watchdog.
Damn, Dan! I hate to hear you’re leaving as you have shed light on some very important issues in Transylvania County - this budget shell game article is a great example. But, we are avid readers of the Watchdog and are delighted you’ll be using your talents there. Hope to see you around Cedar Mountain when you’re not off chasing “big city” stories. Best of luck!
Oh, Dan, how we will miss you! Your move to Asheville Watchdog sounds like a match made in heaven, and I know you all will appreciate each other, but please keep one eye on Brevard. Our little paradise is as much under threat as every part of the country right now, and you've enabled us to understand many large and small issues that have been important. Thanks for these years and this final issue. And thanks for using the remainder of our subscription to keep us aware of the wider area through Asheville Watchdog.
Big news for you Dan. The new job sounds right up your alley. Thanks for your great, unbiased and committed coverage of Transylvania County these past few years. You've provided our community with valuable info we wouldn't have had otherwise. The info your reported in last story is especially shocking, given that the county officials you quote are supposed to be working for us -- and supposed to be telling the truth.
"Good Night and Good Luck!" as my hero Edward R. Murrow so famously said!
Congratulations, Dan. Your many talents and eyes and ears will be missed. I hope all your hard work will be very successful in Asheville. Happy to hear you won't be giving up Transylvania County.
How about an article on the impossibility of renewing a drivers license by appointment? In the last 2 months I have found nothing in the Transilvania, Henderson, Asheville Counties!
Congratulations on your new job! I am a subscriber to Asheville Watchdog and appreciate their fine and honest journalism. I think you will be quite happy there and look forward to reading your stories. One situation about which I would appreciate information in Transylvania County is our recycling situation. I live in the far western part of the county. The Rosman recycle centers hours and days of operation make it out of the question for many of us. So, I drive 25 miles to the Pisgah Forest Center. Since Helene, paper and plastics are being dumped in the same container and I think are therefore not being recycled. I would like to know if there is a market for our recycled items and if indeed they are being recycled or if I am going to a lot of trouble for nothing. Thank you if you have time one day to research this. Best of luck and looking forward to seeing you in the Watchdog!
We are very glad that your excellent research and writing talents will be put to good use reaching a wider audience. However, NO ONE gave us better coverage of what has been happening in Transylvania County, and that will be sorely missed. To my fellow readers of Brevard NewsBeat and Asheville Watchdog: the people who work for these organizations can't take your good wishes to the grocery store--I encourage you to subscribe as paying customers! These are desperate times for excellent journalism, and we must each do what we can to support it wherever we find it. ...Hopping off the podium, for now.
Thanks for all you have done for this community Dan. You will be missed however I know you will be a strong asset to Watchdog. I am excited for you and know that you will continue to keep your eye on Transylvania and Brevard. Congratulations on your new job!!!!

Congratulations Dan on your new position, they are lucky to have someone who reports the truth and works hard at getting!!!
Your voice on local issues will be sorely missed. I can only imagine a lot of city and county high-ups are dancing for joy at the news.
The new job sounds great. You'll kick ass at it.
Congratulations on your new position. I’m glad that you will still be around!
