Dan, thanks for showcasing the heartbeat of America in Pickens. Our President seems to be backed strongly by folks who get what he’s about—common sense, freedom, and putting America first. You nailed it with how good things are there: booming economy, low unemployment, and a community that’s thriving. That’s no accident based on the values in that community—it’s the kind of foundation the president is building upon, not tearing down.

no country can survive with open borders, especially when the open borders allows human trafficking, drugs and criminals to freely enter into the country, and with the (biden) govt taking American taxpayer money to house feed clothe the illegals, and put them up in hotels; trump is correct in deporting them; dems trying to foist Harris and tampon Tim walz on Americans was a really dumb and bizarre move, which certainly helped trump; some crazy dems who a year ago wanted to mandate electric vehicles on everyone, are now burning electric vehicles, showcasing their juvenile and immature rage and hypocracy; the federal govt is a huge bloated wasteful bureaucracy and cutting a lot of it is certainly a good thing for all American taxpayers (except those dems who have been getting wealthy at the public job trough); why during the biden administration was there not one article in this news publication giving any criticism to biden?

Your reply is mindless and pulled from the anals (sic) of Fox News and undeserving of the further dialogue that the article seeks to develop.

The Logan reply at least posits a basis and rationale for the voting behavior in Pickens. It is a matter for conjecture whether the reportedly good economic fortune in that community is the outcome of moral rectitude and ‘American values’ and therefore a model to build on. My view is that there may be answers to be found in the history and development of the foothills, as part of the Appalachian nation of fiercely independent and self reliant people descended from outlander immigrants with a strong sense of grievance and distrust of Government, big G. ISBN 978 0 14 312202 9.

In summary, Pickens has limited plurality and is fertile ground for the extreme right views that threaten the broader tableau of liberal, or conservative democracy. This will not replicate nationally.

There is, of course, a less charitable, less objective Interpretation.

Maybe the Pickens County school system should include the referenced book in its required reading. Those that ignore history and all that.

Hey we should start our own chat group! ;)

Some of the interviews in this article reminded me of the famous quote by James L Petigru upon learning of South Carolina legislature's unanimous vote to secede from the Union.

The diversity of opinion in this comment section is encouraging. Talking to each other is good! The citizens of Pickens County are justifiably proud of their economic situation.
