Thanks, once again, for highlighting the little known but very impactful issues in our region. The trail as it exists now is a gem, and any effort to "fancy it up" would be detrimental. We've walked our dog there on numerous occasions, once saw a fox trot across the path from one wooded area to the next, always hear a multitude of birds, and enjoy the shade this section provides. Pisgah Health Foundation seems to be tone deaf to the real needs of our community....

Existing field sounds like a gem that could use a bit of maintenance for invasive species and enjoyed for it's naturally superb wildlife conservation area m

This property is wholly unsuited for trailhead, parking, fitness course and playground development. The reasons are manifold ranging from access to environmental.

Additionally there is a litany of active recreation development located within 1/3 mile at the City/County sports complex.

Sometimes it’s best to let a pastoral setting remain as is. Just ask Joni Mitchell

I know Michael Plauche well and have birded many times with him. I completely agree that “Freedom Park” is unnecessary and would be detrimental to the flora and fauna of the area. But that being said, being a conservative, I think the foundation should be able to do want it wants with the land it owns, but object strenuously to any public partnership that would spend public money (tax money) to develop the property. If the Foundation wants to do something to benefit the people of Brevard (and the county for that matter), they should donate the property to the city and let the city, and hence the voters, decide what to do with the property, which would hopefully be to allow it to stay undeveloped and maintained as a natural environment. The current paved trail through the property gets plenty of traffic (bike riders, walkers, and is a local birding hot spot). The Foundation would do a better service to the community by dedicating the property as a natural conservation area, accessible to all via the paved trail that snakes through the property, without disturbing the flora and fauna.
